2025 Apostle Islands Race Information

If skating through scenic woodlands offering breathtaking views of Lake Superior, on an island, sounds like your idea of skating heaven, the Apostle Islands inline is the perfect event for you.

Pre-Race Information

Packet Pick-Up

Race packet pick-up and late registration is at the
ASHLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ONLY
Packet pickup is available

June 11: 8am – 5 pm
June 12: 8am – 5 pm
June 13: 8am – 9 pm

Packet Pickup Location:  Packet Pick-up is in Ashland at the Ashland Chamber of Commerce Office 1716 Lake Shore Drive West,  Ashland. 

June 14th, 6 – 7 am
Late Packet Pick-Up at the Madeline Island Ferry Visitor Center at the Ferry Entrance in Bayfield.

The Ferry tickets cannot be purchased in advance. It’s on a first come first serve basis. The process is very quick and is cards only. To learn more on the pricing and schedule click the button below: 

PARKING

The City of Bayfield installed kiosks to take payment to park in the following lots at the price listed:

  • $10/Day
  • Corner of Manypenny and 2nd Street
  • Two Lots at Broad St. and Washington Ave. (At the Big Ravine Trail Head and Library)
  • People can pay cash at the kiosk with the envelope provided or scan the QR code on the envelope to pay online under “Other Payments.”

Parking Information

Due to the race course being close to the Madeline Island Ferry dock there is no need to bring your car over to the island.  Here is a map of the parking available near the Ferry Dock in Bayfield.  

If you choose to bring your vehicle over to the island here is a map of the parking that is available. Bringing your car will be an additional cost.  That fee will be paid at the Ferry Dock

Marathon – Two Waves – 8:30 am
1. ALL PRO/ADV –  MALE & FEMALE wait 1 minute
2. ALL FULL MALE & FEMALE FITNESS REC / FULL QUAD SKATERS

Half Marathon – Mass Start – 8:33 am

Mad Dash – Mass Start – 8:34 am

Race Divisions

  • Pro/Adv Full Marathon is for Elite, Experienced Skaters, not beginners.
  • Fitness Rec Full Marathon (must be able to complete in 3 hours).
  • Quad – Full Marathon (must be able to complete in 3 hours).
  • ALMT- Half Marathon -is for those looking to be part of Apostle Islands but still gaining skills before trying the full marathon.
  • Quad  – Half Marathon (must be able to complete in 3 hours)
  • Mad Skate
  • Quad Mad Skate
  • Junior & Freshman – The Junior and Freshman divisions are for the youth ages 17 & under in the Fitness Rec division of the Marathon, ALMT Half Marathon and in the Mad Skate Races.

Awards 

Pro/Adv – Open

• Open to any age competitive skater
• Top three overall, Male & Female
• No age class awards

Pro/Adv – Masters

• Open to those 30 – 39
• Top three overall, Male & Female
• No age class awards

Pro/Adv – Veteran

• Open to those 40 – 49
• Top three overall, Male & Female
• No age class awards

Pro/Adv – Grand Veteran

• Open to those 50 – 59
• Top three overall, Male & Female
• No age class awards

Pro/Adv – Super Veteran

• Open to those 60 & over
• Top three overall, Male & Female
• No age class awards

Fitness/Rec Marathon

• Top 3 overall, Male & Female Adult (18 & older)
• Top overall, Male & Female Quad – no age class – needs to finish within a 3 hour clock
• Top 3 overall, Male & Female Junior (13-17) **
• Top 3 overall, Male & Female Freshman (10 – 12) **
• Age class awards to top three Male & Females in ten year age classes.

Fitness/Rec – ALMT Half Marathon (a little more than half)

For those looking to be part of the Apostle Islands Races, but still gaining skills before trying the full marathon. 

• Top 3 overall, Male & Female Adult  (18 & older)
• Top overall, Male & Female Quad – no age class – needs to finish within 2 3 hour clock
• Top 3 overall, Male & Female Junior (13-17) **
• Top 3 overall, Male & Female Freshman (10 – 12) **
• Age class awards to top three Male & Female in ten year age classes 

The Mad Fun Skate

• Top overall, Male & Female Adult (18 & older)
• Top overall, Male & Female Quad
• Top overall, Male & Female Junior (13- 17) **
• Top overall, Male & Female Freshman (12 & younger) **
• No age class awards

It is very important that you skate in the Division you sign up in.

Changing divisions on your own can create inaccuracies with timing results.
**Youth signing up for the Youth Award/Divisions must sign up and skate in the Fitness Rec or Mad Fun Skate division.
**Youth wanting to skate with the Pro/Adv must sign up in the Pro/Advance division and will not be eligible for the Youth Awards.
